Stock Limits and Inventory Caps

Why harvests stop, how to raise caps, and how to plan storage before expansions and events.

Every resource in Sunflower Land has a stock limit. When you hit the cap, new harvests, mined nodes, and crafted outputs stop entering inventory until you spend or upgrade storage. Uncapped farms feel "broken" — axes swing, plots look ready, but numbers do not move.

How limits work

Each item type — Sunflower, Wood, Iron, Honey, cooked meals, etc. — tracks current amount / maximum. The maximum rises when you:

  • Craft and place storage buildings (Warehouse, Barn variants, etc.)
  • Unlock skills that raise specific caps
  • Complete certain expansions or island upgrades

Manager land pages show live stock so you can spot a maxed resource without logging in. Cross-check static building values on Constants when theorycrafting upgrades.

Silent failure: The game rarely shouts that you are capped. If production suddenly "stalls," open inventory and scan for full stacks.

Priority upgrades

Not all storage is equal early on. Upgrade what your current loop produces most:

If you mainly… Raise caps for…
Farm crops for deliveries Base crops, then fruit
Mine and craft tools Wood, Stone, Iron
Cook for XP Intermediate ingredients and meals
Run animals Eggs, Wool, Milk
Fish and chum Bait ingredients, fish

Defer exotic caps until you unlock that system (Animals, Fishing).

Stock vs delivery timing

Deliveries ask for bursts of specific goods. A common mistake is filling warehouses right before a double delivery event or a chapter quest that needs the same items. Before seasonal weeks (Seasons calendar), leave headroom in 2–3 key resources.

Steps before big craft sessions:

  1. Fulfill active delivery orders.
  2. Sell or use overflow at the stall.
  3. Craft storage upgrades if within budget.
  4. Start bulk cooking or mining.

Skills and wearables

Some skill nodes increase category limits — crops, fruit, or fish, for example. Plan skill points alongside buildings so you do not double-pay for the same cap. Use Skills info and the Skill trainer to preview totals before respec costs bite.

Wearables and NFT bumps may also tweak yields or effective storage through faster turnover rather than raw caps. Faster production without storage still hits a wall.

Expansion interactions

New land adds nodes and plots, which increases inbound resources per day. Expand only when storage can absorb the spike, or schedule expansion right after a spending spree (deliveries, crafting, marketplace sales). Expansion info lists node counts per plot — multiply by your daily routine.

Mid-game maintenance

Set a session ritual:

  • Scan for red-line full stacks on home land view.
  • Queue one storage craft if a bottleneck repeats every day.
  • Align barn and kitchen outputs so animal products never block cooking.
Chapter weeks: Ticket grinds often need cooked goods and fish. Temporarily prioritize meal and bait caps over raw wood.

When not to upgrade

If you rarely touch a resource, a massive cap is wasted coin. Better to sell surplus via Trade or convert into deliveries than build the tenth warehouse tier for Turnips you never plant.

Next step

With storage under control, plan your next plot on Island expansion or read Deliveries & chores to align caps with NPC orders.
