Bumpkin Skill Trees
How skill points work, major branches, and using Manager to plan respecs before you commit.
At certain bumpkin levels you earn skill points to spend in branching trees. Skills passively boost crops, fruit, cooking, fishing, gathering, and more. Builds are semi-permanent — respecs exist but cost time and resources — so plan before clicking.
Unlocking points
Level your bumpkin by eating cooked food (Bumpkin XP). Each milestone grants points. You cannot buy unlimited points with gems; level gates are intentional. If expansions or recipes are locked, fix XP before debating skills.
Manager offers two views:
- Skills info — official tree layout, requirements, and descriptions synced from game data.
- Skill trainer — load a farm ID and simulate builds against your actual unlocked nodes.
Use the trainer before respec: enter your farm on home, copy the ID, and preview totals in the simulator. See How to use SFL Manager for where Tools sits on the site map; the extension tracks XP and daily loops while you test a build.
Major branches (conceptual map)
Trees group by activity. Typical branches include:
| Branch | Typical boosts | Pairs well with… |
|---|---|---|
| Crops | Yield, speed, sunflowers | Early deliveries, stock limits |
| Fruit | Orchard output, timers | Kitchen fruit recipes |
| Trees & stones | Wood, stone, iron | Expansions, tool crafting |
| Cooking | XP, time, ingredient savings | Bumpkin leveling, deliveries |
| Fishing | Catch rate, bait efficiency | Fish orders, chapter tasks |
| Animals | Produce speed, feed savings | Meal ingredients |
Exact node names change with patches — always verify live data on Skills info, not outdated screenshots.
Build archetypes
Delivery generalist: Split early points between crops and cooking so NPC orders need fewer P2P buys (Deliveries info).
XP rusher: Heavy cooking + fruit for fast bumpkin levels to unlock Expansion rows.
Gather specialist: Tree and stone first if your faction or chapter rewards mined resources (Factions).
Fishing main: Commit only after rod tier and bait stock keep up (Fishing guide).
No build clears all content day one. Mid-game players often run a 80/20 split: most points in one main tree, sprinkling QoL nodes elsewhere.
Legacy and inactive nodes
Some older skill nodes appear in data as legacy — listed for reference but inactive in-game. Cooking info marks legacy cooking skills similarly. Do not plan around them; confirm active flags in Manager after each game update.
Respec strategy
Before respec:
- Export your current build mentally — screenshot or note key nodes.
- List what hurts today (wrong cap branch, over-invested fishing while cooking deliveries).
- Simulate the target build in Skill trainer.
- Budget coin and item cost for the respec action in-game.
Respec during quiet seasons — not the night before double delivery (Seasons calendar).
Skills vs wearables vs NFTs
Skills stack with wearables, collectibles, and Bud bonuses. Diminishing returns appear when everything buffs the same stat. If cooking time is already near cap, the next point might belong in crop yield for ingredients instead (Cooking XP).
Faction and chapter interactions
Some chapters reward activities tied to skill branches. Align respecs with faction perks (Factions util) when your house pushes a shared goal — but do not sacrifice solo progression for tiny team margins unless you trust the group.
Next step
Turn cooking skills into levels with Cooking XP, or open Fishing if your build commits to the rod.
